FireComm—The
Project
The
request
To refit the communications
room of the Tasmanian Fire Service in Hobart with new desking and
seating.
The
Need
The current furniture was
causing discomfort to users and Tas Fire were experiencing a high
rate of absenteeism and workplace industry.
The
Solution
In consultation with
Michael Roberts OH&S Provider and staff of Tas Fire Service
prototypes were produced of workstations. These were produced in
cardboard to enable adjustments to be easily made. The final
designs were then produced and fitted.
The Ergorap™ range of
seating was designed and produced to meet the specific needs of the
FireComm room. The chairs were in use 24/7 by multiple
users. The Ergorap was designed using highest quality
components and Dunlop Enduro foam. The chairs were made
available in a range of seat sizes to suit all users.
The
Outcome
A survey of staff conducted
after the FireComm re fit showed a significant reduction in
absenteeism and workplace injury. In some instances long term
workers compensation claimants were able to return to work and
resume normal duties.
